PRESQU’ILE POINT PROVINCIAL PARK – MAY 2011
We camped at Presqu’ile the last rainy weekend of May 2011. Were there any weekends in May that weren’t raining? I think not. Anyway, this park was highly recommended by a few people we talked to and it didn’t disappoint us. Our site was under water, but the park staff quickly found us another higher and drier one to accommodate our trailer. The park itself was beautiful. Lighthouse Road was beautifully paved with a wide lane for inline skating or bike riding. You could skate or bike a beautiful scenic loop around the peninsula. At the tip is the pretty lighthouse, the lighthouse keepers house and the interpretive center. Very cool displays on the history of the park.
On one of my hikes I encountered two racoons and a fox on a campground road along with may beautiful wildflowers. Here are some park pics:
We were able to kayak twice while camped here. The first time on Popham Bay and the second on Presqu’ile Bay. We took advantage of a little break in the weather on Friday to kayak for a few hours on Popham Bay, then on Saturday we waited for the skies to clear out, then finally gave up and just headed out on Presqu’ile Bay. The sky did eventually clear thanks to a Southwest wind which made for hard paddling. Dave caught a few perch and a nice pike. Fishing score: Dave 6 – Sue 0. Someone needs to take the fishing a little more seriously! Doubtful – I’m the kayaking tourist. I go for the distance and to see the sights. Here are some pics:
Here are some photos of us relaxing and enjoying this beautiful park!
We are hoping to camp again at Presqu’ile soon. It was a beautiful park with many hiking trails, a paved path for biking or skating, and many places at the park or in the vicinity for kayaking. Here are some links:
