MARTEN RIVER PROVINCIAL PARK – JUNE 2011
Our first campground of our 2011 holidays was Marten River Provincial Park. The site I booked look great online, complete with a view of the river. We couldn’t wait to finally get there! We left after work on a Tuesday night and drove as far as Orillia, where we stayed overnight. The next morning we left for Marten River along with the rain that moved in overnight. It rained in fact for three more days. Our campsite was even better than the online pictures. I think the only reason I was able to book it, was due to our arrival date being so early – June 23rd. We stayed at this park for 11 days. What a great campground! Even the July 1st long weekend wasn’t too noisy. The park was very clean and an added bonus for me, was the wireless internet access point just outside the park!
Here are a few photos of our site, the boat launch next to us and beautiful Marten River as seen from our campsite:
We spent time kayaking almost every day that we were at Marten River, rain or shine. Eventually the rain did end. The fishing was not so good, but according to the parks warden, it was off for everyone in that area. Regardless, we spent so much time out on the water at so many different lakes. Here are some pics of our kayaking time on beautiful Marten River:
There were so many lakes and readily available access points in the area we were kept so busy on the water. It turned out, there were even more access points we found towards the end of our stay at this park, which were only accessible by rough 4X4 roads.
Here are some photos of our road trip to Hangstone Lake:
And some more pics of our kayaking trips.
I can’t express how much fun we had camping at Marten River. The area was so pretty with so many beautiful lakes to explore. The campground itself was really nice, here are more pics taken around the park:
Marten River Provincial Park was a very nice park and we enjoyed camping here very much. I’d love to return sometime in the future. Here are some useful links:

Hi, our site number at Marten River was 135. It was right beside the boat launch and on Marten River. The pad slope was level, the view of the river fantastic and the size large. If you camp at Marten River, I hope you enjoy yourself. We did. I think we were out kayaking almost every day of the 11 days camped here. As well, there is a small variety store just outside the park (north) on Hwy 11 that has free wireless internet. We used it occasionally to check in with our teenagers at home. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me. Marten River is a really nice, clean, quiet park.
