BASS LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK – AUGUST 2013

Bass Lake Provincial Park is located in the town of Orillia, Ontario. It’s located on Bass Lake with a small portion of shoreline including a beach for swimming. The rest of the park consists of reclaimed farmland and forests. Other than the small portion of waterfront the park occupies, the shore is lined with cottages around the entire perimeter.
We camped at Bass Lake Provincial Park for five days at the end of August. This was our first time visiting this park. Our site – #107 was fairly large and level. It backed onto a road, but the traffic noise was pretty much non-existent. This park was the second one we stayed at during our holidays. Considering we were here over the long weekend, it was fairly quiet. The park staff were friendly and the patrols many. We used both our own facilities and the showers at the park.
We had our kayaks and canoe still loaded on, but we didn’t end up spending any time paddling on Bass Lake. It looks like a fairly busy lake with boat traffic, but an early morning paddle would have been nice. Here are some photos of Bass Lake:
Our camping friends John & Cindy joined us for a couple days at Bass Lake. We celebrated our wedding anniversaries together and drank plenty – plenty! Great food, great friends and good times!
Cindy and I hiked the one trail at the park – a 2.8 km trail that winds along the waterfront, through the meadows and woods in a pretty loop. We passed a stone building – an old milk house. It was a really nice, well maintained trail. Here are some photos:
The rest of our time at the park was spent relaxing and enjoying our time with friends. Here are some more photos of our time away:
We enjoyed our stay at Bass Lake. The only complaint I have about the park would be the condition of the showers. It’s common though on long weekends during the summer to have dirtier facilities. The park is just so busy and the park staff seem to only clean first thing in the morning. Our site was located in the Hilltop Campground. No complaints about the site quality. Privacy between sites varies and it’s best to check online for photos of different sites. The showers were a bit of a walk from our site but there were toilets close by if we needed them. The garbage, park office, park store and beach were all within walking distance. The boat launch looked okay. I can’t really comment on the beach because we didn’t spend any time there. All in all, the park was decent. Here are some links:
