Well March sure did go out like a lion! We spent our last weekend of the month at Valens in a winter wonderland of ice! The storm rolled through on Thursday and although wasn’t felt much at home, it left a path of ice up at Valens! The temperatures also stayed cold enough to keep the ice on the trees until Saturday. Here’s a photo of our icy campsite!
We arrived at camp on Thursday evening and got things set up immediately. It didn’t take long to get the truck unloaded and the fifth wheel warm and set up. We used our fresh water system again despite the colder temperatures. It doesn’t take long to clear the pink from the lines and run water from our large jugs into the tank. We’re getting used to how to work our system without a gravity fill.
This last weekend at Valens fell over the Easter holiday weekend and I was scheduled off at work for a change, so we had three days to spend camping! Friday, we awoke to a cold, gray sky and lot’s of ice still on the trees! The scenery was incredible!
Friday was a special treat for me – a Garth Brooks concert! I had booked this concert knowing we’d be camping the same weekend, but it’s a short drive from the campground to the First Ontario Centre where Garth was playing. I’d been wanting to see Garth live for almost 20 years, so this was a definite bucket list item!
It was a late night Friday! We literally drove back home to the campground and fell into bed! I woke up Saturday with what I was hoping was a sore throat from the concert. Yes, I did a little whooping with the crowd! 🙂
As it turned out, it was not a sore throat from the concert but from a the onset of a cold. At least we awoke to sunshine and a little warmer temperatures outside! After a lovely breakfast, we started a campfire and spent the rest of our day outside! It was so relaxing sitting in the sun listening to the sound of the ice sliding off the trees in the forest. Here are some photos of our sunny Saturday!
It was such a lovely weekend! We had several RVing in Canada group members either camped at Valens or stop by. It was so good to see them again. It’s a long winter and we are in the minority of winter campers!
Saturday we enjoyed our Easter dinner and a new recipe for breakfast! It’s no secret I love baking in my fiver’s oven. I tried Cinnamon Roll French Toast Bake! Very easy and very tasty! You can find the recipe and some photos on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SueandDavesRVAdventures/
We stayed until lunch on Sunday then loaded up some last items to take home from the campsite. The next weekend we’re at Valens we’ll be hooking up the fifth wheel and towing it home so we want to lighten the load and bring back any items accumulated for winter camping.
It will be sad to see the winter season end, but it will be equally nice to start our regular season of travel too! If you check out the 2016 Campgrounds page at the top of this blog, you’ll find our travel itinerary!
So, we’ll see you in April – back at Valens for the last trip of our winter camping season!
CHEERS and HAPPY CAMPING!!!
